Who We Are

At KAPN, our purpose is to build strong, sustainable communities where everyone feels welcome, connected, and supported. We are dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Kerala while helping our members — particularly newly arrived migrants, international students, women, children, and elderly community members — thrive in their new home. We believe that people flourish when they have a community to belong to, and everything we do is built around that belief.We build community capacity through volunteer leadership, and work to reduce barriers to participation for migrants, women, and older members so everyone can take part in community life

To foster cultural identity, build intergenerational connections, and create a strong sense of belonging — while delivering inclusive, accessible programmes that support newly arrived migrants, promote community wellbeing, and preserve Kerala's rich heritage for the next generation growing up in New Zealand.

Since 2009, KAPN has worked to build a self-reliant, connected Malayali community in Palmerston North — one that supports its own members, contributes to the wider community, and passes on its cultural heritage to the next generation. We do this entirely through volunteer effort, creating opportunities for participation in cultural, social, and recreational activities that strengthen belonging and reduce isolation for newcomers and long-standing members alike.
